Pirra Flat

Year
2019
Location
Barrio Rejas, Madrid

Located in the Rejas district of Madrid, this apartment required the replacement of its existing timber flooring due to wear and deterioration. Large-format porcelain tiles were selected as the ideal solution, providing excellent performance with the new underfloor heating system while offering a durable, low-maintenance surface suited to the owners' lifestyle, including their cats' frequent access to the terrace.

The renovation followed a sustainable approach by reusing the existing kitchen. Part of the original cabinetry and drawer units were retained, while new cabinet doors, an updated worktop, and integrated LED lighting gave the kitchen a fresh contemporary appearance, demonstrating how existing elements can be successfully transformed rather than replaced.

A multifunctional island was introduced to subtly define the kitchen and living areas while maintaining visual continuity. In addition to providing extra workspace and informal seating, it enhances the perception of space, making the apartment feel larger than its actual footprint.

To preserve the warmth of the original timber flooring, a natural wood feature wall became the focal point of the living area. At the same time, the greenery from the terrace is visually drawn into the interior, strengthening the connection between indoors and outdoors and creating a fresh, welcoming atmosphere throughout the home.
